Construction of the Ostróda Bypass Budimex SA awarded the title and statuette of TOPBuilder 2018
The construction of the Ostróda Bypass, carried out by Budimex, was honoured with the TopBuilder 2018 statuette. This is one of the most valued awards on the Polish construction market.
The construction of the S7 expressway on the Ostróda Północ – Ostróda Południe section, together with the construction of the Ostróda bypass along national road No. 16, is one of the most interesting engineering tasks undertaken by Budimex in recent years.
The contract, which was signed in June 2015. with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, the Olsztyn Branch covers the construction of the S7 expressway on a section of 9.66 km, and the construction of the Ostróda bypass with a length of 9.13 km along national road No. 16.
The scope of bridge works related to the construction of the Ostróda bypass consists of m.in. construction of 15 bridge structures, including six of a special structure and one of the extradosed bridge, which is record-breaking on a European scale. The record-breaking Budimex bridge is built in the line of national road No. 16 – a four-span bridge with an extradosed structure and a total length of 677 m, with a record span of 2 x 206 m in Europe in this category of bridges, was built using the cantilever technology.
The construction of the bridge structures of the Ostróda bypass was the largest contract in the history of Budimex in terms of the value of bridge works. At this point, attention should be paid to the scale of bridge structures (two structures with a span of 200m or more), the variety of structural solutions, the high degree of their complexity and complicated ground conditions, the impact of environmental constraints, quality requirements and the short deadline for the completion of works for such a complex and difficult task. During the performance of the contract, Budimex used its own specialised Technical Office to verify and control the design process and optimise technical solutions.
The jury awards the TopBuilder statuette to the highest quality products and construction solutions as well as projects in which modern architectural, structural, material and technological solutions have been used. The submitted proposals are subject to a two-stage verification, during which they are assessed in terms of quality, innovation, technical parameters, application and impact on the natural environment. In addition, recommendations from laboratories and certification bodies are taken into account, and even aspects such as the competitiveness of solutions or the period for which the warranty is granted. The evaluation is made by the Chapter, which consists of members of the Editorial Board and the Scientific and Program Council of “Builder”, headed by Professor Leonard Runkiewicz.
