Budimex has completed a project (EPC) for the construction of a CHP plant in Vilnius, generating energy from waste incineration. The plant is equipped with a waste-fired boiler (municipal and RDF) supplying a turbine with a capacity of 18.8 MWe. Budimex delivered and commissioned a 72.7 MWe turbine, powered by two biomass-fired boilers. The waste boiler was developed in a consortium with Steinmueller Babcock Environment GmbH and UAB Kauno Dujotiekio Statyba. The contract provided for the construction of a complete waste incineration power plant, including ancillary equipment and a turbine island, along with power evacuation in a biomass-fired plant. The electrical capacity of the new CHP plant is approx. 91.5 MWe and 227 MWt. The CHP plant was designed taking into account the demand of the Lithuanian capital and is able to meet 20% of the heat demand on the coldest days and about 40% of all the heat that Vilnius needs throughout the year.
