In September, the first construction works will begin, consisting in making the foundations for the passenger terminal of the new national airport. The Central Communication Port Company, which implements the Port of Poland investment programme, has signed a contract for the implementation of this task with Budimex S.A. The value of the works is nearly PLN 146 million.
– After the preparation and design stage, we move on to the execution works. In the autumn, work will begin on the foundation of the terminal, i.e. the so-called piling. It will be a symbolic beginning of the construction of a new, most modern airport in Europe, which will be built between Łódź and Warsaw – said Dariusz Klimczak, Minister of Infrastructure.
– From the perspective of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the most important thing at the beginning of the implementation of this project was the synchronization of the activities of the ministry and the authorities of the company responsible for the Port of Poland program – emphasized the minister.
The construction works related to the foundation will include the construction of over 8 thousand piles and columns with a length of 9 to 30 meters using various technologies. The total length of the planned ground reinforcement elements will exceed 140 kilometers. The scope of work includes the construction of intermediate foundations, which are the basis for the construction of the future passenger terminal. According to the assumptions, the completion of construction works is planned at the turn of 2027 and 2028.
– Work on one of the most important and largest infrastructure projects in the history of Polish is being carried out very dynamically and in many areas. On the one hand, the necessary administrative procedures are underway, and on the other hand, activities related to the preparation of the site for construction are being carried out – emphasized Piotr Malepszak, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Government Plenipotentiary for the Central Communication Port.
The procedure for the selection of the contractor for the deep foundations, i.e. the execution of the so-called piling for the passenger terminal, was initiated on 12 December 2025. Nine of the largest companies and consortia with which the company concluded framework agreements were invited to participate in the tender. The deadline for submitting bids expired on 20 February – six of them were received, all within the assumed budget. The most advantageous and at the same time the lowest bid in the amount of PLN 145,952,189.91 gross was submitted by Budimex S.A.
– According to the assumptions, in September, as the Central Communication Port company, implementing the Port of Poland investment program, we will be ready to start the first construction works on the new airport. Before starting the works, it is still necessary to obtain a building permit from the Mazovian Voivodeship and take possession of the plots.
– The contract for the execution of the foundations for the terminal, which will allow us to start construction works, is one of the many tasks that we are currently implementing. By the end of the year, we plan to select a contractor for the passenger terminal. Regardless of this, preparatory works related to demolition and removal of collisions with high-voltage lines and other infrastructure are underway at the future airport – explains Dariusz Kuś, Port Polska, Member of the Management Board of Centralny Port Komunikacyjny.

New domestic airport
The airport, which will be built as part of the Port of Poland project, is the most modern facility of this type in this part of Europe. It will handle more than 300,000 flight operations per year. It will have 2 independent runways. This investment will change the transport face of Polish and this part of Europe. It is an opportunity for economic development, acquisition of new technologies, but also new jobs. In the airport part alone, over 35 thousand people will find employment.
The estimated cost of the investment by 2032 is PLN 131.7 billion.
