Budimex, as a leader in the construction industry, is constantly looking for innovative solutions in the field of intelligent technologies. Currently, in order to improve the work of specialists and improve safety on construction sites, it is introducing innovative solutions in the field of VR.
Education and cooperation in the area of innovation and safety are values to which Budimex S.A. pays particular attention. The company is actively involved in development activities, conducting numerous domestic and foreign research projects. Currently, Budimex uses new applications in occupational health and safety. Training based on virtual reality increases the competences of employees and improves the quality of work.
“Continuous technical and technological development as well as safety are the most important for us. We want to use innovative solutions in our daily work so that the results of our activities are distinguished by the highest quality and investor satisfaction. We cooperate with entities that, like us, are looking for a way of development. Each construction completed by us is the result of the work of experienced and professional employees who constantly deepen their knowledge by taking an active part in training,” says Dariusz Blocher, President of the Management Board, CEO of Budimex SA.
Modern form of training
Budimex’s latest initiative is a step towards VR and using it to increase safety on construction sites. The company’s employees expanded their knowledge during the implementation of the contract for the construction of the Research and Development Centre of ORLEN S.A. in Płock, and learned about the use of virtual reality. The technology was used in an innovative health and safety training for signallers and hook operators. As part of the introduction, the instructors explained how the VR mechanism works and how to use Google glasses. Then, during the 8-hour tests, employees moved around the virtual world and participated in simulated dangerous or potentially dangerous situations. The acquired knowledge was verified during an exam. The participants rated the new experience as valuable and interesting. The OHS team, thanks to the use of new technology during the training, learned m.in. that directional lines and zip straps can be overlooked by the team when working on projects.
Virtual reality as a source of change
The company sees potential in the use of VR in the construction industry. The tool is perfect for the implementation of specialist training for individual employees and teams. Its main advantage is that it communicates about a possible threat. It is also a source of knowledge for executives as part of virtual “Safety walk” organizations, building awareness and informing what areas need improvement.
– Human life is a superior value for us. We feel responsible for the safety of our team, which is why we pay special attention to meeting all necessary standards to ensure the protection of our employees and associates. We see great potential in VR solutions in the construction industry. It is a source of valuable knowledge in on-the-job training, as well as in periodic OHS training,” says Dariusz Blocher, President of the Management Board, CEO of Budimex SA.
The Budimex S.A. team is constantly developing its competences. Among the innovative projects implemented by the company are m.in. development of a technology for self-repairing roads in cooperation with the Warsaw University of Technology or work carried out together with the Institute of Power Engineering-Research Institute and Mostostal Kraków on a technology to reduce the emission of harmful substances in MCP grate boilers in the power industry. In addition to research activities, Budimex is involved in expanding the competences of the team. The deepened knowledge in the field of VR has potential in the context of both individual employees and teams. The mechanism provides feedback, thanks to which it is possible to make changes in areas that require intervention.
