Budimex has commissioned a nearly 8-kilometre section of the S7 expressway on the section from Skarżysko-Kamienna to the border of the Mazowieckie and Świętokrzyskie voivodeships six months before the contract deadline in May 2020. The new section of the S7 connected Skarżysko Kamienna and Kielce with Grójec near Warsaw on an uninterrupted expressway. The investor is the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. The investment is co-financed by the European Union.
The investment carried out by Budimex includes not only a 7.6 km section of the S7 route, but also 14 km of service and access roads. In addition, the bypass consists of 10 bridges and 5 culverts. Construction work began in October 2017.
Every day, 400 employees and 130 equipment units were involved in the implementation of activities on the construction site. “The work went very smoothly and without any disruptions – says Artur Popko – Vice President of Budimex and Director. Budownictwa Budimex SA. The completion of the investment will allow the closure of the S7 expressway from Grójec to the border with the Małopolskie Voivodeship, i.e. on a section of approx. 200 km, while bypassing Skarżysko Kamienna. This reduces travel time and improves traffic safety – adds Artur Popko.
Road works:
• Excavations, embankments and the entire structure, including bituminous masses on the main route, were completed in full;
• To date, the contractor has carried out approximately 2,000,000 m3 of earthworks and 135,000 tons of bituminous mass.
Bridge works:
• A total of 30,000 m3 of concrete and 4,000,000 kg of steel were built.
Road cross-section – 2 roadways with 2 lanes each (2×2), ultimately 2×3 lanes
Lane width – 3.5m
Width of emergency lanes – 2.5m
Width of the dividing strip – 12.0 m (including reserve for 3 strips 2×3.5m = 7m)
Max. Load – 115kN/axle
Budimex is constructing every fourth kilometre of an expressway or motorway in Poland. This year, the company also plans to put sections of the S17 and A1 into service. In recent months, Budimex has completed another important section of the S5 route between Wrocław and Poznań.
