The contract worth almost PLN 45 million included the design and execution of construction works. As part of the work, Budimex modernised the technical infrastructure of the substation, m.in. turnouts and overhead contact line. As a result, its capacity has increased, and trains will be able to travel at a speed of 200 km/h.

The contract was part of the project “Modernization of railway line No. 4 – Central Trunk Line”. Budimex started the construction of the investment in November 2016.

The most difficult was the completion of the first stage of the investment, scheduled for July-August 2017, which required the complete exclusion of this section from rail traffic. For this reason, Budimex had only one month to carry out demolition and construction works. – Due to the shutdown of traffic, nothing could be delayed by an hour, and for 32 days the activities had to be carried out around the clock. We demolished overhead contact lines and built new turnouts, which arrived at the construction site in 3-part blocks. Thanks to the excellent organization and the use of high-class railway equipment, we kept these conditions and the traffic could be resumed – says Dariusz Blocher, President of the Management Board of Budimex S.A.

As part of the contract, Budimex carried out the reconstruction of the station’s technical infrastructure, including m.in. track surface, turnouts, overhead contact line and traffic control equipment. 12 modern turnouts with a movable nose of the crossing have been installed at the station – the same are equipped with high-speed lines, up to 250 km/h.

“The Olszamowice Railway Station is a very modern project – it is fully prepared for automatic control, without human participation. In addition, it is equipped with, for example, video surveillance, and the switchboard has automatic fire extinguishing systems – says Marcin Kopeć, contract manager of this investment.

Although the Olszamowice station is not a passenger stop, it plays an important role in rail traffic. Its modernization allows to increase the capacity of the CMK, on one of the busiest railway lines in the country. Thanks to it, it will be possible to overtake freight trains by passenger expresses, speeding at 200 km/h.

Budimex is currently implementing several key railway investments on behalf of PKP PLK, such as: modernisation of railway line No. 7 on the Otwock-Pilawa and Pilawa-Dęblin sections, modernisation of the E20 line on the LCS Kutno section, modernisation of the Trzebinia – Krzeszowice section on the Katowice – Kraków line, modernisation of the Ring Line on the Warszawa Gołąbki/Warszawa Zachodnia – Warszawa Gdańska section, modernization of the Idzikowice station on the Central Railway Station worth over PLN 1.5 billion. Budimex is the general contractor of completed and award-winning railway contracts, such as, m.in, the modernisation of LCS Iława, the Kraków Zabłocie – Kraków Krzemionki railway connection or the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway.
