Budimex has completed the long-awaited reconstruction of the DW501 provincial road, which connects Gdańsk with Krynica Morska. After two years of intensive work that began in November 2022, the reconstruction was completed at the end of 2024. The cost of the investment amounted to over PLN 100 million.
The DW501 road, which is the only road connection between the Vistula Spit and the rest of the country, has been struggling with a terrible technical condition for years. Construction works related to the ditch through the Vistula Spit, including the transport of heavy equipment and materials, significantly deteriorated its condition. Work on the reconstruction of the road began after the completion of the construction of the Vistula Spit ditch, offering a real opportunity to improve the road infrastructure in the region.
The reconstruction included a 17.3 km section between Stegna and Krynica Morska. As part of the works, not only the structure of the road surface was modernized, but also a new rainwater drainage system was built in towns along the route,
which will allow for better drainage of rainwater. Intersections have been rebuilt, new technical infrastructure and pavements have been built to improve pedestrian safety.

Especially since it runs in an extremely picturesque and attractive tourist area. The investment we have completed will not only improve the comfort of travel, but will also contribute to greater safety of road users and will certainly have a positive impact on the development of the region ,” said Miłosz Kulik, Contract Manager at Budimex SA.
The road renovation was particularly important from the point of view of tourists and the local community, because in summer the DW501 route is one of the busiest sections in the region. So far, during the tourist season, especially during peak traffic periods, traffic jams have often formed on the road. Despite the difficulties, thanks to the progress of the work, it was possible to gradually clear the traffic so as not to disturb the life of local residents and tourists. The modernization of the road will significantly improve the comfort of travel to Krynica Morska, as DW501 remains the only connection of the Vistula Spit with the rest of the country.
