The third Parent Zone this year has been handed over! Patients and children of patients of the Oncology Center of the Lublin Region im. st. Jana z Dukla in Lublin can already spend time in new spaces
The 37th Parent Zone was created despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic. Thanks to this project, children – haemato-oncology patients and children of oncology patients treated at the Lublin Oncology Centre – will be able to take advantage of the colourful and friendly spaces.
“Parent Zone. Budimex for Children” is a nationwide social project, run and fully financed by Budimex SA. The aim of the project is to create special places in children’s wards of Polish hospitals, where facilities and creative solutions will be conducive to the hospitalization process and shorten the recovery time.
The Oncology Center of the Lublin Region im. st. Jana z Dukla is the largest oncological hospital in the Lublin region. Its area is over 55 thousand. sqm. The center provides comprehensive diagnostics and therapy for patients requiring hospitalization and treatment of cancer.
“Today we are handing over the thirty-seventh Parent Zone. Thanks to it, children treated at the hemato-oncology ward of the Lublin hospital and children of patients who undergo diagnostic or therapeutic procedures at the Centre will be able to spend time in colourful spaces. Once again, we have achieved our goal – we have created a friendly room and we hope that the atmosphere will make children feel better!” – says Aldona Orłowski, Director of the Recruitment, Development and Communication Office at Budimex.
The 37th Parent Zone has been officially operating in the spaces of the Oncology Centre of the Lublin Region since today and has a unique function. It is a place where young patients undergoing haemato-oncological treatment and children, who often accompany their parents during examinations or radio- and chemotherapy, will be able to forget about the trauma of the disease and the hardships of the procedure. On the ground floor of building No. 6 in the Lublin hospital, an open space was created, which was inspired by the underwater world. In the hall connected to the former social facilities, a safe and colorful place to play was created, with a pool full of balls, rocking dolphins and creative toys in the form of mermaids and fish. There is also space for adults – soft sofas with a view of the large-format aquarium. Up to 50 thousand beneficiaries a year will be able to benefit from the Parent Zone in Lublin. In addition, the Oncology Center of the Lublin Region will provide care for the children of patients undergoing examinations, thanks to the involvement of retired nurses of the facility.
The coronavirus pandemic made it impossible to organize the opening ceremony with the presence of local authorities and journalists, so the handover of the 37. Parent Zone took place in a symbolic way.
The programme is implemented and fully financed by Budimex SA.

Parent Zone. Budimex for children
Creating more comfortable conditions for parents and caregivers of young patients to stay in the hospital, and thus improving the well-being of children and facilitating their faster recovery is the main goal of the original and unique social program “Parent Zone. Budimex for Children”. Since 2013, the programme has been implemented and fully financed by Budimex SA.
As part of the program, special zones for parents are separated in children’s wards of Polish hospitals. Depending on the needs and conditions in individual facilities, it may be arranging an unused room or a fragment of a corridor, equipping the hospital with an appropriate number of folding beds or sanitary facilities, or organizing a place to rest and play with children. The main objectives of the Parent Zone programme are to provide sick children staying in hospital with their parents for as long as possible, to reduce stress caused by isolation and lack of contact with parents, to publicise the problem of limited contact between parents and children in paediatric wards and to reduce the time of children’s stay in hospitals.
