The largest Polish general contractor has signed an agreement with the Central Communication Port for the reconstruction of the drainage system in the area of the future Port of Poland Airport. The investment includes the construction of new drainage ditches with a total length of 6.8 km and a dry retention reservoir with an area of 10.68 ha. The system will serve to protect against flooding of the area  and will enable the implementation of subsequent stages of the airport’s construction.

As part of the contract signed with the CPK, Budimex will construct new PG-31 and PG-31A ditches with a total length of 6.8 km. Communication routes with a total length of about 12 km will also be built along the banks. The scope of works also includes the construction of 30 reinforced concrete culverts and the reconstruction of the accompanying infrastructure: water supply and sewage networks, energy, telecommunications and transverse roads. An important element of the system will be a dry flood protection reservoir with an area of 10.68 ha with an earth dam. In combination with the reconstructed drainage system, it will perform a flood protection function, supporting the protection of the area intended for the future airport.

– An efficient water management system is one of the conditions for the safe implementation of the next stages of the construction of the Port of Poland. Our task is to prepare the infrastructure that will adapt the existing drainage system to the needs of the future airport and provide protection against flooding of the area. We will use the experience of Budimex teams in the construction of various hydrotechnical facilities – says Cezary Łysenko, Chief Operating Officer of Infrastructure and General Construction, Member of the Management Board of Budimex SA.

The contract provides for two months for the development of the detailed design and 22 months for construction works. The scope of the contract also includes 54 months of maintenance and maintenance of the infrastructure. The works carried out by Budimex will concern the PG-31 and PG-31A ditches, the reservoir canopy, the dam and accompanying facilities, in order to maintain the efficiency of the entire system. After the implementation of the investment, these facilities will become part of the flood protection system for the critical infrastructure of the new Port of Poland Airport. The net value of the contract is PLN 59.2 million.

Budimex is also implementing other investments under the Port of Poland programme. In the case of the airport, the company is responsible for the construction of the intermediate foundations of the passenger terminal. As part of the railway component of this programme, Budimex is building the Retkinia and Fabryczna chambers in Łódź, which will be used to start and complete the operation of the TBM disc drilling the High Speed Rail tunnel. The tunnel will be part of the route connecting Warsaw, the new airport and Łódź with Wrocław and Poznań. The implementation of this task will contribute to the creation of railway connections that will make it easier for passengers to reach the Port of Poland.
