Budimex will build a road for the construction of the Nuclear Power Plant in Choczewo

Budimex has started the project of building a technical road to the newly designed Nuclear Power Plant in the Choczewo commune. The works will include the design, obtaining the necessary permits and – after exercising the right of option – the construction and commissioning of a road with a length of about 900 meters, which will provide communication services for the MOLF structure supporting the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Poland.

Thanks to the MOLF structure, the largest elements for the construction of the nuclear power plant in the Choczewo municipality will be transported by sea. This is primarily the case for oversized cargo, such as reactor vessel, steam generator and other modular components, and nuclear power plant equipment. The technical road will be used mainly for deliveries for the construction site. In the initial phase, traffic will be two-way, with intensive intensity and with a predominance of truck and oversize vehicle traffic. After the construction of the power plant, it can take the form of a public road.

The road construction project includes a wide range of activities, including the preparation of full design documentation, obtaining environmental and location decisions and building permits. The project envisages, among m.in, geodetic and geotechnical works, construction of a drainage system and rainwater drainage, as well as the implementation of accompanying works, such as the construction of an engineering structure and the construction of exits.

“The construction of a technical road to the newly designed nuclear power plant in the Choczewo municipality is an important project for us, which is part of the strategy of supporting the development of energy infrastructure in Poland. The implementation of this investment will not only enable efficient logistics services for the construction of the power plant, but will also contribute to the development of local road infrastructure. We are proud to be able to participate in such an important project that will increase the country’s energy security ,” says Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA.

The construction of this road is one of our many preparatory activities for the construction of the power plant. Such oversized loads as a steam generator, pressure vessel or other modular parts will reach Polish by sea, and the technical road we have just contracted will be the last section of their route to the construction site. This solution will allow us to relieve local and regional roads ,” explained PEJ President Leszek Juchniewicz.

The 15-metre-wide road will have a cement concrete surface, one-metre concrete shoulders on both sides and mechanically stabilized aggregate shoulders  on both sides. Drainage will be provided by road ditches, with water drainage to receivers. The construction works will be carried out in accordance with the requirements for environmental protection.

During the implementation of the investment, Budimex is obliged to carry out numerous arrangements with stakeholders, road owners and administrative authorities. The complexity of the project also requires the provision of appropriate specialist supervision, m.in. natural, archaeological, geotechnical
and sapper.

Budimex, as a leader in the construction industry, has extensive experience in the implementation of complex infrastructure projects. The construction of a technical road in the Choczewo municipality is a key element of the development of infrastructure for the first Polish nuclear power plant, which will contribute to increasing the country’s energy security and the economic development of the region.
