On Tuesday, 9 May 2023, Budimex signed a contract for the reconstruction and expansion of the swimming pool and the sports and entertainment hall at the Szczecin Sports Centre. The contract will be implemented in the “design and build” formula. The modernist sports center developed with new functionalities will be used by the residents of the city in 3 years.
The signing ceremony was attended by Piotr Krzystek – Mayor of the City of Szczecin, Radosław Tumielewicz – President of the Management Board of Szczecińskie Inwestycje Miejskie Sp. z o.o. – the entity supervising the investment, and Mariusz Hurylski, Director of the Northern Branch of Budimex S.A.
We are very happy to have the opportunity to co-create a new version of the facility of such great and historical importance for the inhabitants of Szczecin. As a company, we are committed to supporting educational and sports initiatives and pay special attention to the social impact of our investments. We have extensive experience in general contracting of this type of halls and buildings. Description of the investment
Budimex as the general contractor of the investment at ul. Wąska 16, will be responsible for the demolition of the existing 25-meter swimming pool and the hall, and then the construction of new facilities.
The infrastructure of the modernized Szczecin Sports Center will include m.in. a multifunctional sports and entertainment hall, which, after expansion, will be able to accommodate nearly 1,500 fans and host sports competitions of regional, national and international rank at the level of club teams of cities. The building will also house two boxing rooms.
The new swimming pool will include a 30-meter swimming pool with a local depth and rooms for lifeguards, toilets and a warehouse. As part of the investment, the construction of swimming competition stands for 246 people is planned
and reconstruction of a small swimming pool with a paddling pool.
In addition, the works will include the renovation of the existing main hall, land development with exits, access roads and accesses, technical infrastructure and connections to external networks.
Parameters of the new Szczecin Sports Centre:
– cubic capacity of the facility: 75 133 m3
– total area: 10,526 m2
– building height: 11.45-17.60 m
– green areas: 1,957m2 (existing) and 745 m2 (designed)
– number of underground storeys: 1
– number of above-ground storeys: 4
Technologies and modern solutions
The complex will be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and equipped with innovations conducive to m.in. reduction of operating costs. The pool water technology will allow for the reuse of 75% of wash water. In order to increase the energy efficiency of the buildings, materials that meet the current standards for heat transfer will be used in the construction process. There will also be a photovoltaic installation in the complex.
In order to preserve the identity and emphasize the role of the former center in the life of the local community, its elements will be incorporated into the new buildings – part of the entrance hall and the mosaic.
The estimated value of the investment is over PLN 108 million gross. It will be partially financed by the Government Fund Polish Deal: Strategic Investment Program (PLN 65 million).
This is another task in the area of general construction carried out by Budimex in the city of Szczecin and the surrounding area. The largest general contractor in Poland is also responsible for the reconstruction of the railway bridge over the Regalica River and the construction of the Przecław and Warzymice bypass. In 2020, Budimex completed the flood control reservoir for the Odra River – the largest such facility in Poland.
