Budimex S.A. has signed a contract with PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. for the construction of section A as part of the project to modernise the alternative transport route Bydgoszcz – Tricity. The works will cover railway lines No. 201 on the Kościerzyna – Somonino section and No. 214 Somonino – Kartuzy. The project is crucial for improving the capacity and accessibility of railways in Kashubia.

Scope of work

The project provides for the modernisation of 27 km of line 201, including the construction of a second track, and the renewal of 8 km of line 214, which will enable the resumption of passenger traffic between Somonin and Kartuzy. The lines will be electrified, and railway stations and stops will be modernized. With passengers with reduced mobility in mind, the platforms will be adapted to their needs.

The work will also include:

  • modernization of 120 engineering structures, such as: bridges, viaducts, underground passages, retaining walls and culverts;
  • reconstruction of the railway traffic control system, including the construction of the Local Control Centre in Kościerzyna and a new signal box in Somonino.

Improved comfort and efficiency

After the completion of the investment, passenger trains will travel at a speed of up to 140 km/h on line No. 201 and up to 120 km/h on line No. 214. For freight transport, the speed will be increased to 100 km/h. The modernisation of railway lines No. 201 and 214 is an investment of strategic importance. It will improve connections between Kashubia, the Tri-City and Bydgoszcz, as well as improve access to the seaports of Gdynia and Gdańsk. With this project, it will strengthen the region’s logistics potential, facilitating the transport of goods and contributing to the development of international trade.
