On 28 July 2025, Budimex SA, a leading Polish general contractor, signed a contract for the construction of one of the most important infrastructure investments in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. It includes the construction of the Warzymice and Przecław bypass and the Kołbaskowo bypass, as well as the modernization of the border section of the A6 motorway. The aim of the project is to significantly improve traffic flow, increase safety and improve the connection of Szczecin with the expressway network
and border crossing.
The scope of the project to be implemented by Budimex SA includes three sections: the construction of the Warzymice and Przecław bypass (section 1), the construction of the Kołbaskowo bypass (section 2) and the extension of the border section of the A6 motorway (section 3). New sections of national road No. 13 and the rebuilt infrastructure of the A6 motorway will improve the transport accessibility of the region, relieve local towns from transit traffic and reduce the travel time between the centre of Szczecin and the expressway network and the state border.
Currently, the national road No. 13 has a single-carriageway two-lane cross-section, which does not meet the standards of a GP class road (main accelerated road). The route is characterized by heavy traffic and low flow of travel, which translates into poor quality of communication both on a local and international scale. The new infrastructure will improve Szczecin’s connection to the A6 motorway, the S3 expressway and routes to Germany, thus supporting the region’s economic development.
“For years, Budimex has been implementing road investments that have been making a real difference in the quality of life of residents and supporting the development of regions. The project in West Pomerania, a suburb of Szczecin, is an example of a project that combines scale, complexity and direct impact on the everyday lives of thousands of people. The new sections of DK13 and the rebuilt A6 motorway improve transit and relieve local roads, improve safety and shorten access to the border with Germany. It is also a transport hub and a connection to the future Western Bypass of Szczecin,” says Paweł Kuźbik, Contract Director at Budimex SA.
As part of the investment, Budimex SA will build a new section of the bypass with a length of approx. 7.8 km, two new road junctions (Siadło Górne and Szczecin Zachód), three roundabouts on the Kołbaskowo bypass, 11 engineering structures and 9 retention reservoirs. The works will also include the demolition of a temporary roundabout, the reconstruction of the A6 motorway over a section of over 2 km, the construction of access roads, exits, as well as comprehensive industry works related to the reconstruction of the conflicting technical infrastructure. The investment also involves the construction of a new motorway junction, which will replace the currently operating DK13 junction with A6, which does not meet modern standards.
The project implementation time is 27 months from the date of signing the contract, and the contract value is PLN 429,043,649.24 gross.
Budimex is the largest road contractor in Poland – it is responsible for an average of every fourth kilometre of newly built expressways. The company plays a key role in the construction of national roads, being the main contractor under the Government Programme for the Construction of National Roads and the Programme for the Construction of 100 Bypasses, thus contributing to the modernisation of the transport network in Poland. The company’s commitment and scale of operations place Budimex at the forefront of the most important construction companies in the country.
