Budimex has received and certified the new Dragon 2 locomotive from the manufacturer. It is the first unit of this type in Budimex’s equipment resources and the only locomotive of this type in the resources of construction companies carrying out the modernisation and construction of railway lines. It will be powered by 100% green energy.
The E6ACTadnb DRAGON 2 locomotives is a two-cabin six-axle universal locomotive compliant with the Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI 2014) designed for freight operation with a capacity of 5MW adapted to be powered from the DC 3kV overhead contact line, traveling at speeds up to 120km/h.
Budimex will use the locomotive to transport trains with materials and raw materials necessary for the implementation of railway investments throughout Poland.
The main advantage of Dragon 2 is its very high tractive force, which, combined with the large weight of the locomotive, an effective anti-skid system and a drive on each axle, makes it possible to drive heavy freight trains,” says Maciej Olek, Member of the Management Board of Budimex SA. Each axle is driven by an asynchronous motor with a power of 842kW each. The locomotive is equipped with an additional diesel module “Dual Power” that allows it to travel and power when access to the overhead contact line is impossible, which increases its mobility,” adds Maciej Olek.
Dual-system and green
The vehicle is equipped with the most modern safety systems, including ETCS level two and a dual-system radio operating in the GSM-R and VHF networks. Budimex has also signed a contract with PGE Energetyka Kolejowa for the supply of energy to the locomotive, which is 100% green energy. The locomotive will make its debut during the celebration of Children’s Day at the Warszawa Zachodnia station on June 6 (Friday). However, at the beginning of July, it begins normal work on the transport of goods.
Investments
Budimex allocates over PLN 100 million annually for the development and modernisation of construction equipment, of which PLN 80 million is invested in vehicles and machinery. The company’s facilities include over 300 equipment units of road and railway construction.
