Work on the construction of a strategic intersection of the D1 and D4 motorways near Bratislava is progressing well. Redirecting traffic to the newly built lane will enable the reconstruction and widening of the right lane of the D1 motorway. The D1D4 project is the first project of the Polish company Budimex in Slovakia and, when completed, will significantly improve the efficiency of road traffic around the capital of the country and in the entire region.
The contractor, Budimex SA, has successfully completed the widening of the left lane of the D1 motorway in Triblavina, a few kilometres before Bratislava, despite the difficult conditions, maintaining a full flow of traffic. The next phase of the project is the reconstruction of the right lane of D1. It is therefore necessary to redirect traffic to the newly widened lane. Traffic diversion and ongoing work will require short-term traffic restrictions.
” Every day, 120,000 cars pass through this key motorway in Slovakia. When completed, the right lane of the D1 motorway will have four lanes, which will increase driving comfort, safety and traffic capacity. In cooperation with the contracting authority, the traffic police, as well as our partners and subcontractors, we are ready to take on this stage responsibly and with full commitment ,” explains Wojciech Włodzimirski, Contract Director at Budimex.
Once completed, the connection of D1 and D4 will reduce the pressure on the motorway running through the capital. An important element of the project will be the construction of detour routes that will redirect traffic from the D1 highway, thus creating space for the construction of the necessary bridges and highway connections in the directions of Jarovce – Trnava and Trnava – Stupava.
Due to the need to adjust the level of the D1 motorway to the course of the D4 motorway, part of the project is also to raise the level of the D1 motorway – during periods of heavy traffic. Such a project is unique in Slovakia.
” Budimex, as a company with over fifty years of tradition, has extensive experience in the implementation of thousands of infrastructural, construction and industrial investments. The main challenge of this project is that construction has to take place while moving, so the construction work is heavily affected. However, this project, which is our first in Slovakia, is also an excellent opportunity to transfer our know-how and best practices abroad ,” adds Cezary Łysenko, Member of the Management Board and Chief Operating Officer for Infrastructure, Water Engineering and General Construction at Budimex SA.
On average, Budimex builds every fourth kilometre of motorways in Poland. Recently, it has significantly accelerated its expansion into foreign markets. The company has been successfully operating in Germany for a long time and has recently entered the Czech market, where it has already been successful in several tenders. In December, the company signed its first contract in Latvia, where it will build a 230-kilometre section of the Rail Baltica railway line as part of an international consortium.
