Two months before the contractual deadline,  after obtaining the occupancy permit, the Operational Acceptance of the Strachocina – Granica RP gas pipeline was carried out, which completes the construction stage of this section of the gas pipeline and  enables the Investor, i.e. GAZ-SYSTEM SA. start of preparing the facility for operation.

Budimex, in a consortium with Mostostal Kraków, has completed the construction of a strategic high-pressure gas pipeline in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. This gas pipeline is an important element of the Poland-Slovakia interconnection.

In August this year. the Strachocina – State Border gas pipeline has been technically connected with the gas pipeline on the Slovak side by a “gold weld”. The welding works were carried out by Budimex on the border of Polish and Slovak countries. A month before the contractual deadline – i.e. on 22 September, the technical acceptance of the facility took place. Then, from 11 to 14 October, Budimex performed gasification of the gas pipeline.

The diameter of the gas pipeline is 1000 mm, its length is 61 km,  and  the working pressure is 8.4MPa. During the implementation, trenchless technologies such as HDD (horizontal directional drilling) or microtunneling were used. As part of this task, Budimex used 27 thousand tonnes of steel, made 390 km of micropiles to strengthen the area through which the gas pipeline passes, and moved 6,300 m3 of soil. The contract value amounted to PLN 521.48 million net.

The purpose of this investment was to build a new gas pipeline connecting the natural gas transmission systems of Poland and Slovakia. The Strachocina – Polish border gas pipeline being built by Budimex is already ready for operation by the Investor. The scale of the investment is emphasized by the fact that over 100 subcontractors and about 1000 employees worked on it  – says Piotr Świecki, Director of Energy and Industrial Construction at Budimex SA.

The following works remain to be completed before the completion of the investment: securing watercourses, construction of forest roads, execution of drainage and riprap and land reclamation.

From the technical point of view, the constructed gas pipeline is ready to transmit gas. To complete the investment, it is still necessary to rehabilitate the area and hand over their plots to the owners. The final acceptance will take place after joint tests with the Slovak side, confirming the correct functioning of the entire interconnector.

It was a construction carried out in the most difficult conditions, both due to the terrain, isolation from infrastructure and weather conditions from autumn to spring ,” adds Piotr Świecki.

The route of the gas pipeline runs through the municipalities of Sanok, Bukowsko and Komańcza in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The construction of the gas pipeline between Poland and Slovakia, which has been ongoing since July 2019, is an important element of Gaz-System’s investment strategy due to its strategic importance  – the connection of the Polish and Slovak natural gas transmission systems. Since 2020, Budimex has also been constructing another key section of the new gas pipeline: the 122-kilometre Goleniów-Ciecierzyce gas pipeline.
