Budimex has completed works related to the reconstruction of track systems and accompanying infrastructure on the E-59 railway line on the Rokietnica – Wronki section. episode o 35.14 km long, it is part of the railway line between Poznań Główny and Szczecin Główny. The investor of the contract is PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA.

As part of the contract signed on September 14, 2018 The modernization covered the track surface, overhead contact line, power supply, repair and modernization of engineering structures, as well as the reconstruction of platforms, rail-road crossings and the construction of new drainage.

The scope of work included:

  • reconstruction of 77 km of railway track,
  • reconstruction of 74 km of overhead contact line,
  • reconstruction of 2 railway stations: Szamotuły and Wronki and 3 stops: Pamiątkowo, Baborówko and Pęckowo,
  • construction of 2 crossings under the tracks: Szamotuły and Wronki,
  • reconstruction of 10 platforms with small architecture and adapting them to the needs of people with reduced mobility,
  • modernization of 18 railway and road bridges and viaducts,
  • modernization of 19 rail-road crossings.

Budimex carried out track works with new traction equipment, using its own machinery.

“The Rokietnica-Wronki section is another advanced project of strategic importance for the entire national rail transport. The E-59 line is part of the Trans-European Transport Network. Budimex is currently at the forefront of contractors in the field of railway infrastructure modernization. Our experience, people and equipment enable us to implement any railway investment in Poland – says Artur Popko, President of Budimex S.A.

As part of the completed works, the following were used:

  • We have built 55 railway turnouts, most of which are delivered in block technology on 4-hour night line closures.
  • 51 km of DSM displacement columns to strengthen the subgrade,
  • 18 km of prefabricated reinforced concrete piles,
  • Over 0.5 million tonnes of aggregates – as many as 660 night shutdowns were needed to complete this task in the entire railway line, because the line was open all the time and passengers used it.

The contract included m.in. construction of a modern, technically  advanced bridge over the Warta River in Wronki, with a length of 193 m.

– The innovation of the technical solution used lies in the use of a load-bearing structure, the main element of which is a three-span composite structure in the form of a single steel lattice girder with a reinforced concrete mating slab. The length of the bridge in the axes of the expansion joints is 193 m. On the other hand, the theoretical span of the spans is 86 m in length for the current span, and the flood spans measure 52 m in length, respectively. The technology used made it possible to shorten the construction time of the bridge within one track to 180 days. It should be emphasized here that this type of solution is the first one used in Poland by Budimex – says Maciej Olek, Director of the Railway Construction Division of Budimex SA.

– The implementation of this investment was primarily aimed at increasing the speed of passenger traffic to 160 km per hour, increasing safety on the crossings, reducing operating and operating costs and reducing the maintenance of the railway infrastructure, but above all it is about increasing the attractiveness of the transport offer for passengers by shortening the travel time, increasing the comfort of travel and eliminating architectural barriers for people with disabilities reduced mobility – says Paweł Chlasta – Contract Director at Budimex SA.

Budimex is one of the leaders in railway construction in Poland. The company is currently implementing contracts such as m.in. the new Warszawa Zachodnia station, which is one of the largest investments of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA. Currently, Budimex is also responsible for the reconstruction of the Ełk station and the Czechowice Dziedzice station. Works related to the reconstruction of the Trzebinia-Krzeszowice section of the E30 railway line are also underway. In 2021. Budimex has completed the modernisation of railway line No. 7 Warsaw – Lublin on the Otwock-Pilawa, Pilawa – Dęblin and Dęblin-Nałęczów sections.
