The construction of the Wałbrzych bypass along national road 35, carried out by Budimex six months after the start of construction works, is already more than 20% advanced. On average, 300 workers and 150 units of equipment work on the construction site every day. The investor is the General Directorate for Roads and Motorways and the City of Wałbrzych.
At the moment, earthworks are underway along the entire length of the bypass. The concreting of the viaduct structures at the Reja and Żeromskiego junctions is also underway. The foundations of flyovers and footbridges are being built. On the first sections with a total length of approx. 1 kilometre Budimex has already laid the first structural layers of the road and elements of the new sewage and drainage system. A big challenge for the general contractor are underground collisions with the old mining infrastructure, municipal utilities not included in the design documentation. Each collision requires many additional arrangements and approvals on the part of the investor and offices. The construction is carried out by Budimex in the “build” system.
More than 70 subcontractors and material suppliers are working on the construction site. The works began in April 2019. The contractual deadline for the completion of the works is June 2021. The scope of work includes m.in:
– construction of two roadways (2 x 7.5 m, two lanes each) of the bypass with a length of 6.0 km,
– construction of two junctions; Żeromskiego junction and Reja junction,
– transport hubs,
– construction of three viaducts along the bypass,
– construction of a footbridge and an underground passage for pedestrians,
– construction of a rainwater drainage system,
– construction of retention reservoirs,
– construction of noise barriers,
– construction of lighting,
– reconstruction of the existing technical infrastructure (watercourses, underground and above-ground networks, etc.),
– demolition of residential and farm buildings colliding with the investment and tree felling.
The bypass will be covered by a five-year warranty.
