On 27 June 2017, the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians awarded the title of Construction of the Year for the 27th time. In this year’s edition of the competition, five investments completed by the Budimex SA Group won the title of “Construction of the Year 2016”, four first-degree awards and one second-degree prize.
PZITB awards investments that are distinguished by modern technological solutions, high quality of works, good organization of the construction process, as well as a high level of ensuring work safety and environmental protection. A particular reason for satisfaction is the fact that the construction projects carried out by Budimex meet these criteria, and that individual teams on contracts have achieved outstanding implementation results.
The title of “Construction of the Year 2016” (first degree award) was awarded to the following projects:
- POLMLEK Production Plant in Lidzbark Warmiński, in the category: production, trade and service facilities.
The construction required a non-standard approach in terms of design and execution. In order to coordinate the technology designs provided by an international team of designers, BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology was used to prepare optimal building solutions.
- Business Garden Wrocław (first stage), in the category: office buildings.
The investment is characterized by modern offices with energy-saving solutions. The device systems used in the buildings are to ensure thermal comfort, increase the amount of fresh air in the rooms and control the access of daylight, as well as reduce water and electricity consumption.
- Lublin Conference Centre in Lublin, in category: public buildings.
It is a representative building with unusual individual technical solutions, such as double-layer glass facades with a prestressed tendon structure made of stainless steel, or the façade of the internal rooms of the “cocoon” finished with spatial arched ceramic panels.
The general contractor for the above investments was Budimex S.A.
The title of “Construction of the Year 2016” (first degree award) was also awarded to the Głogów Copper Smelter and Refinery, in the category: industrial facilities. The general contractor of this facility was Mostostal Kraków SA.
The facility performs a function related to the smelting of copper concentrate. The modernized hall is multi-nave and multi-bay. The complex includes tall and high-rise buildings with separate reinforced concrete cores, where there are flash furnaces and electric furnaces, as well as metallurgical and transport equipment and necessary installations related to their operation.
The title of “Construction of the Year 2016” (second degree award) was awarded in the category: forindividually assessed biekts – S7 Miłomłyn – Ostróda expressway (subsection A). The general contractor of the investment was the Consortium of Budimex S.A. and Ferrovial Agroman S.A.
The investment included the construction of a 9.4-kilometre section of the S7 dual carriageway expressway, together with technical infrastructure and traffic safety equipment. The entire investment was put into use 3 months ahead of schedule. During the implementation of the investment, special emphasis was placed on the health and safety of employees, which was awarded in the “Build safely” competition.
The “Construction of the Year” competition, organized by the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction and the General Office of Building Supervision, has become one of the most prestigious reviews of the achievements of the Polish construction industry.
