Budimex won as many as five Construction of the Year 2020 awards, commonly known as the Construction Oscars. The Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians awarded the best construction projects in Poland in terms of engineering completed in 2020.
Budimex won the most awards among all general contractors. PZIiTB awarded investments completed by Budimex, such as:
• Racibórz Dolny Retention Reservoir in Racibórz
• The first stage of the reconstruction of the Monopolis office and service complex in Łódź at ul. Dr Stefana Kopcińskiego 62
• Wola Retro in Warsaw at ul. Skierniewicka 16/20
• Modernization of the Idzikowice railway station
• Communication Centre with an information system for passengers in Kielce at ul. Czarnowska 12
The title of the Construction of the Year is won by 45 of the best construction sites in Poland. A special jury, after a technical visit to the construction site, assesses the quality of works, the organization of construction and the time of its implementation, technical and technological solutions of the implementation process, occupational safety and health protection, the course and form of financing the investment, the costs of construction of the building, formal and legal solutions in the investment process, the investor’s participation in the construction of the building and the impact of the investment on the environment and the economy of the region.
The investment awarded in the competition – the Racibórz Dolny Reservoir is the largest hydrotechnical investment in Poland. It was commissioned by the Regional Water Management Authority in Gliwice. More than 6.8 million tons of soil were used for its construction, which would accommodate a total of 130,960 freight wagons.
Another awarded investment, i.e. Monopolis in Łódź, is one of the most technologically advanced revitalization facilities, not only in Poland. The investment also received the “Real Estate Oscar” during the prestigious MIPIM Awards ceremony in Paris. The project was next to the four best investments in Singapore, Montreal and Bangkok. The basic assumption of the project was to restore the cohesion of the entire post-industrial area of the Polmos Spirits Plant. Preparing the facilities to perform new functions was as important as preserving their original appearance.
Also the award-winning Wola Retro in Warsaw is an office investment being realized in Warsaw’s Wola district. It is a combination of two buildings – a pre-war modernist building with a new ten-storey office building. The facility combines interesting design with high quality workmanship.
The modernization of the Idzikowice railway station included the modernization of the track surface with drainage, overhead contact line, power engineering, railway traffic control devices, telecommunications and the construction of a signal box with and expansion of the emergency group hall of PKP PLK maintenance services. The works were carried out as part of the project “Modernization of railway line No. 4 – Central Trunk Line stage II” aimed at adapting one of the most important railway lines in Poland to the speed of 250 km/h.
The Communication Centre in Kielce is a symbolic and important infrastructural investment for the city and the region, which has contributed to increasing the comfort of travellers. Preserving the original appearance of the station was the main task of the general contractor, who was responsible for renovating the building, while maintaining its characteristic saucer shape.
