In June 2020, two weeks before the contract deadline – a fault-free final acceptance of the task “Modernization of the Idzikowice station” was carried out. The contract, executed by a consortium of Budimex and KZA Lublin, worth PLN 106 million, has been carried out in the construction field since February 2018. The investor is PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe.
The completed works enable, after the appropriate certification and installation of the ETCS level 2 system by PKP PLK, the passage of trains through this section of the Central Railway Line with a Vmax of 250 km/h.
The scope of work included: modernization of the track surface with drainage, overhead contact line, power engineering, railway traffic control equipment, telecommunication technology and construction of a control room with and expansion of the emergency group hall of PKP PLK maintenance services. The contract was implemented in the Design and Build formula.
The biggest challenge under the contract was the completion of the works within the deadline specified by PKP PLK, where the Contractor had to perform works related to the reconstruction of the track system, overhead contact line and the installation of computer railway traffic control devices along with the transfer of the dispatcher Idzikowice station to the newly built signal box. with continuous maintenance of railway traffic and uninterrupted operation of railway sidings used by Remtrak, PolRegio, IM Kraków and PKP Energetyka – says Artur Popko – Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Budimex SA
On average, about 20 units of equipment worked on the construction site every day. We also carried out the work in winter – adds Artur Popko.
The works were carried out as part of the project “Modernization of railway line No. 4 – Central Trunk Line stage II” aimed at adapting one of the most important railway lines in Poland to the speed of 250 km/h. In order for the trains to run at such a speed, 14 pcs. turnouts with a movable nose of the crossing, 10 with a radius of R = 1200 and 4 with a radius of R = 500. A total of 44 new turnouts, 19.157 km of tracks and 25 km of overhead contact line were installed at the Idzikowice station.
Budimex is currently among the top three largest general contractors for the modernisation of railway lines in Poland. Last year, the company contracted railway contracts worth PLN 3.2 billion. In addition, the Polish contractor is implementing such railway contracts as: LK17 Otwock – Lublin, Warszawa Zachodnia, E30 Trzebinia – Krzeszowice, LK139 – Czechowice – Dziedzice, Reconstruction of the Gdynia Port Railway Junction and E59 Wronki.
