As part of the investment “Construction and equipment of technical facilities for servicing rolling stock at the Oświęcim station – in the design and build mode”, it is planned to construct, m.in, a repair hall building with a social part, a shelter, a technical building, tracks and turnouts, and the necessary installations.
The modern facilities of the Oświęcim station will enable, for m.in, to perform technical inspections, ongoing repairs and sanitary service without the need to travel by vehicles to other rolling stock service points. It will also provide a local rolling stock reserve and give the opportunity to eliminate rolling stock defects in a new and logistically convenient location in Oświęcim.
I am a resident of this county and I represent this part of the region, i.e. Western Małopolska, in the voivodeship board. I can only thank you that I am on this board and that I have such a great team of colleagues who together understand that Małopolska must develop evenly. They see the needs of Western Małopolska and support me a lot in all these developmental things. I am glad that it was all created in such a coherent way. We are doing the last stage, complementing the entire investment on the railway. Once again, I would like to thank the Marshal and the entire board, the President for their cooperation and support. The cooperation will continue throughout the investment. I would like to thank the president, the road authority, because we have a lot of road investments in the infrastructure plan, together we are doing the OSPR, the Brzeszcze bypass, the pavement from Brzeszcze to Oświęcim. The investment for PLN 50 million will allow for jobs and professional operation of modern rolling stock. First of all, it will develop and beautify Western Małopolska and our county. I wish good luck to the company that won the tender. Let’s go, build and enjoy – said Iwona Gibas from the voivodeship board.
The technical facilities are an important step towards the further development of Koleje Małopolskie and increasing the efficiency of rolling stock maintenance. The implementation of the investment in Oświęcim will also strengthen the operational potential of the entire network of connections of Koleje Małopolskie – it will enable the creation of a local rolling stock reserve and improve the logistics of the carrier’s daily work. Infrastructure is primarily a team game and a relay race. At every level, whether it is deputy, local government or corporate, so let’s work for it. Today, we are just implementing, as the Marshal and Madam Marshal began, an 18-month run – very clearly defined. Oświęcim is a very important 4-way transport hub: to Silesia, Trzebinia, Skawina and towards Podbeskidzie Bielsko or Czechowice. Millions of passengers or customers of Koleje Małopolskie who come to Oświęcim, the first picture they will see here will be the surroundings of the station. We want the new railway facilities to be a symbol of a well-functioning economy of Małopolska, well-developed in terms of communication ,” added President Radosław Włoszek.
The investment is co-financed from EU funds under the European Funds for Małopolska Programme 2021–2027, Priority 4 “European Funds for Regional Transport”, Measure 4.4 Rail transport, Project Type B.
The total value of the project is approx. PLN 50 million, of which over PLN 29.1 million is co-financing from European Funds.
The contractor of the investment is Budimex S.A.
The signing of this agreement is another important step for us in the implementation of modern railway-related infrastructure projects, which directly support the development of public transport in Poland. The technical facilities in Oświęcim will strengthen not only the operational potential of Koleje Małopolskie, but also the quality of passenger service. Budimex has many years of experience in the implementation of investments in the cubature and railway segments. We are proud to be able to take part in this strategic project ,” said Marcin Maj, Regional Director at Budimex S.A.
Dynamic development of Koleje Małopolskie
The construction of railway facilities to service rolling stock in Oświęcim is another important investment that will enable the further development of Koleje Małopolskie and rail transport in the region. Let us remind you that in September last year, a framework agreement worth over PLN 1.3 billion was signed for the purchase of 25 trains that will strengthen the carrier’s rolling stock. As part of it, two executive contracts have already been signed for the purchase of a total of 12 vehicles. The first trains will hit the tracks of Małopolska in the middle of next year.
