On 14 October, a contract was concluded between Budimex S.A. and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, Lublin Branch, for the design and construction of the S17 Piaski-Hrebenne expressway, Section No. 6: Zamość Wschód junction – Zamość Południe junction with a length of approx. 12.4 km. The contract was signed by Artur Popko – President of Budimex and Mirosław Czech – Director of the GDDKiA Branch in Lublin in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State Assets – Jacek Sasin, Minister of Infrastructure – Andrzej Adamczyk and Director of GDDKiA – Tomasz Żuchowski.
The scope of the investment includes the preparation of the design and construction of an expressway with a dual carriageway cross-section (two lanes in both directions with emergency lanes). Engineering structures and roads to handle local traffic will also be built.
We plan that the design and construction works, along with obtaining the occupancy permit, will be completed within a maximum of 36 months from the date of signing the contract, excluding winter periods,” said Artur Popko, President of Budimex SA, during the signing.
The section will start at the Zamość Wschód junction, which will be built at the intersection with national road No. 74, near the town of Jarosławiec.
As part of the investment, m.in will be built. two road junctions, a bridge and nine viaducts. An important part of the investment will be environmental aspects: animal crossings, noise barriers, retention reservoirs, culverts for amphibians and planting trees and shrubs – added Artur Popko.

Date of completion of works: 36 months (winter periods, i.e. from 16.12 to 15.03, are not included in the time of completion of works; winter periods, i.e. from 16.12 to 15.03, are included in the time covered by the design).
The route will run east of the current national road No. 17, will bypass Barchaczów and Łabunie and will end at the Zamość Południe junction near Wólka Łabuńska, at the intersection with the road leading towards the village of Tyszowce. As part of the investment, a section of DK74 from Zamość to Miączyn will also be expanded, with a length of approx. 4 km.
On average, Budimex builds an expressway and motorway in Poland every 4 kilometres. Eighty percent of road contracts are completed by the Polish general construction contractor before the required contract date.
