The consortium of Budimex and Gülermak has concluded an agreement with PKP PLK for the comprehensive execution of construction works on railway line No. 104 on section D Limanowa – Klęczany siding. The project, worth PLN 1.93 billion net, is to be completed within 31 months.

Budimex is the leader of the consortium with a 50% stake, and its composition is complemented by Gülermak Air Sanayi Inşaat ve Taahhüt (25% share) and Gülermak (25% share). The section between Limanowa and the Klęczany siding is the longest and most expensive section of the modernization of line 104, which is important for connecting the planned Podłęże-Piekiełko railway line with Zakopane and Nowy Sącz. The works start at the moment of signing the contract.

‎- In the case of LK No. 104 on the section D Limanowa – Klęczany siding, we are dealing with by far the longest section and a large-scale project.Taking into account its value, it is undoubtedly, next to Western Warsaw, one of the most important railway projects of recent years. The fact that we are actively involved in the implementation of both key projects is a confirmation of our know-how and proficiency in conducting even very complex and challenging railway investments – says Artur Popko, President of Budimex SA.

The section being implemented by the consortium is particularly difficult due to the construction of tunnels (2 tunnels with a total length of 7.5 kilometres) and a large number of bridges and viaducts (22 structures).

This is another historic contract that we are adding to our portfolio. It is also a huge challenge. We have two tunnels to build in the extremely demanding geological conditions of the “Carpathian flysch”, in a very short time. We are experts in difficult challenges, because for years we have been implementing the most complex projects in Poland and abroad. Our team is made up of highly qualified professionals who have built hundreds of kilometers of underground infrastructure around the world. I am convinced that our experience and commitment will allow us to meet these challenges and achieve success – says Bülent Özdemir, President of Gülermak, Region West.

As a general contractor for many railway projects, Budimex actively contracts in Poland and on foreign markets. As a result of the €3.7 billion contract for the construction of the Rail Baltica railway line in Latvia concluded in December 2023, the winning ERB RAIL consortium with Budimex will build a 230-kilometre high-speed railway. Rail Baltica is one of the largest infrastructure projects financed by the EU.

In Poland, Budimex is responsible for PKP PLK’s largest investment – the reconstruction of the Warszawa Zachodnia station, which is in a decisive phase. It will be the largest railway station in the country, through which about 1,200 agglomeration, regional, long-distance domestic and international trains will pass daily. In January this year, Budimex completed  the modernisation of the Czechowice-Dziedzice railway junction. As part of the contract, m.in 23 engineering structures were constructed or rebuilt, including 8 viaducts and 4 bridges, and about 47 km of tracks and 56 km of overhead contact line were replaced. 3 rail-road crossings and platforms at the Czechowice-Dziedzice, Goczałkowice-Zdrój and Zabrzeg stations were modernized. All works were carried out under active railway traffic. Budimex is currently also carrying out railway investments for PKP PLK in the Port of Gdynia, at the Ełk station, on the following lines: Nowy Targ – Rabka and Pszczyna – Żory.
