Construction of a section of the S5 expressway Ornowo-Wirwajdy crossed the halfway point. The works carried out by Budimex on a section of the S5 expressway between Ostróda and Iława are ahead of schedule.

The section implemented under the contract, which is approximately 5.3 km long, is a continuation of the Ostróda bypass and is part of the S5 expressway to Grudziądz, and finally to Bydgoszcz, Poznań and Wrocław.

The implementation of the investment is carried out in the “Design and Build” formula. Currently, after 16 months of construction works, the Ornowo – Wirwajdy expressway section is at the stage of over 50% progress. Due to the fact that the contract is due to be completed in May 2023, this is a very good progress of construction works – says Cezary Łysenko – Director of Infrastructure Construction at Budimex

Work is being carried out on multiple fronts at the same time. The construction of embankments, bridges and roadway structural layers is being carried out. The first sections of bituminous foundations have already been laid. On average, 170 workers and 98 heavy equipment units work on the construction site.  The reconstruction of power, teletechnical, water and sewage and gas collisions has already been completed. Currently , a rainwater drainage system, a teletechnical channel, as well as  reinforcements of retention reservoirs and works on the Morlińska Struga watercourse are being built – says Cezary Łysenko.

The construction of the S5 on the Ornowo – Wirwajdy section is another road investment of Budimex in this part of Polish. Earlier, the general contractor completed the Olsztyn bypass and the Ostróda bypass, subsections A and B, i.e. a nearly 20-kilometre section of the S7 expressway (9.7 km) and a slightly shorter national road DK16 (9 km).
