The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways strengthens cooperation with the Agreement for Safety in the Construction Industry
The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways and the Agreement for Safety in the Construction Industry have signed a declaration of cooperation. Its aim is to work together to improve work safety in the implementation of infrastructure investments, servicing and maintenance of existing roads.
The Agreement for Safety in the Construction Industry and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways have committed to building an OHS culture through continuous improvement of OHS management systems on ongoing projects and the development of a common strategy of activities, including guidelines to increase the level of safety on construction sites. Both sides will now appoint expert teams that will develop a detailed scope of cooperation and a schedule of activities.
“We want to reduce dangerous incidents on construction sites to a minimum. Thanks to cooperation with an organization associating general contractors, we can do it even more effectively. Cooperation in such an important issue is the basis of success – says Tomasz Żuchowski, acting General Director of National Roads and Motorways.
– Signing the declaration is actually a formality, because we have been working together for safety on construction sites for some time now. We hope that one of the effects of our cooperation will be the development of safety guidelines that will be helpful at all stages of the construction process – says Jacek Leczkowski, President of the Agreement for Safety in Construction. – Work safety is one of the fields in which the cooperation of all parties implementing construction projects is necessary. I hope that our partnership will be a model example of cooperation with public institutions for other industries: fully organized, transparent, contributing to the development of the sector – adds Jacek Leczkowski.
The Agreement for Safety in Construction promotes a culture of safety on construction sites through the implementation of standards, including the introduction of systemic solutions in the field of health and safety and educational and training activities. The organization prepares videos, manuals and training for construction workers. Posters with guidelines on protection against coronavirus were published m.in. by GDDKiA. ” In addition to improving safety on roads and engineering structures, in this term of office we want to focus on procedures related to work at heights and vertical transport of materials ,” says Jacek Leczkowski, President of the Agreement.
The declaration of cooperation between the Agreement for Safety in Construction and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways was signed during a meeting of the Covenant’s steering committee, i.e. a body composed of the presidents, vice-presidents and CEOs of the signatory members. In addition to the President of the Agreement for Safety in Construction, Jacek Leczkowski, and the acting General Director for National Roads and Motorways, Tomasz Żuchowski, it was also attended by the General Director’s Counsellor – Tomasz Kwieciński, Director of the OHS Division in the ERBUD Group – Bartosz Wiśniewski and Michał Wasilewski, coordinator of the Agreement for Safety in Construction.
