Budimex has completed the construction of the important Kraków tram terminus “Kurdwanów” ahead of schedule.
The works included, m.in. reconstruction of the track and turnouts and construction of the overhead contact line. The finalization of this stage in just two months was possible thanks to the maximum commitment of the team and the creation of a special brigade. Tram traffic is already running normally, which is important due to the upcoming start of the academic year.

The construction site was handed over on July 19. Initially, the works were supposed to take several months, but thanks to the great commitment of the entire team, the company brought them to completion after only two months, The deadline for completion of the works was set for September 30. Despite the extension of the procedure for issuing a decision permitting the implementation of this stage by the authorities, Budimex managed to complete the works a few days before the deadline specified in the contract. On that day, the rebuilt tram terminus “Kurdwanów” P+R was accepted by the commission and handed over to the administrator.

The works included, m.in. reconstruction of the track at a length of approx. 643 linear meters (running meters), including the construction of a new surface in the ballastless technology, reconstruction of turnouts along the length of approx. 223 meters of linear metres, 2 pcs. of equalizing devices, 5 pcs. drives, 3 pcs. lubricators and the construction of 794 linear meters of overhead contact line with twenty poles.

Tram traffic at the terminus is now running smoothly, which is particularly important due to the upcoming start of the academic year. – The Łagiewnicka Route in Krakow is an extremely important investment for us due to its strategic importance. Always cooperating with local governments, we are very careful to meet all deadlines. In this case, despite some administrative postponements, we managed to complete the work at a very fast pace – says Dariusz Blocher, President of the Management Board of Budimex S.A. – It is worth noting that the construction and reconstruction of the tram overhead contact line was carried out by our company’s own resources. The Traction Brigade was created specifically for this contract.

Currently, work is continuing on the remaining available sections. Activities carried out on the further section of the tram line, which is ultimately to reach ul. Zakopane (including through a tunnel with a length of approx. 640 m) will not cause further difficulties in the operation of the loop.

The Łagiewnicka Route is an important investment for Krakow in the coming years. This is one of the missing elements of the so-called III ring road of the city. As part of it, 3.5 km of dual carriageway road will be built, with tunnel sections and a tram line (1.7 km) connecting the Kurdwanów housing estate and Zakopiańska Street. In addition, Budimex will build five tunnels, new road junctions, noise barriers, bridges over the Wilga River, footbridges, pavements and bicycle paths. The project also includes the development of above-ground areas (places above the tunnels and within the course of the investment), i.e.: plantings, Jordan garden, park-like development, sports facilities, playgrounds (“Dragon Squares”), pedestrian and bicycle paths.

The net value of the investment is PLN 652.19 million. The construction will last until 2020.
