The progress of works at the Ełk railway station is approaching the halfway point

After 9. months of work, the progress in the modernization of the Ełk station has reached 40% of its progress. On average, approx. 100 units of equipment and nearly 200 people.  

Currently, construction works on the viaducts, installation of rails and construction of the overhead contact line are underway. A new tunnel under the platforms is under construction. Three new platform edges for passengers have already been built (two at the Ełk station and one at the Ełk Szyba stop). The Local Railway Traffic Control Centre is also being built.

The work front at the Ełk station is fully developed. Work is underway practically along the entire length of the station – says Maciej Olek, Director of the Railway Construction Division at Budimex. We signed the contract in the design and build system for the modernization of the Ełk station on August 26, 2021. The deadline for the order is 28 months. The warranty period is 5 years. After the Czechowice Dziedzice station and the Warszawa Zachodnia station, the Ełk junction is another one implemented by Budimex SA – adds Maciej Olek.

The scope of the investment includes:

– reconstruction of railway tracks with a total length of 38.3 km (including 3.8 as an option) together with subgrade and drainage as well as Railway Control Devices at the Ełk Passenger and Ełk Towarowy stations,

– construction of 118 turnouts (including 2 as an option),

– construction of 5 platforms (including 2 options); a total of 2600m of edge (400m as an option) adapted to the needs of people with disabilities with full infrastructure,

– reconstruction of the overhead contact line and the network and lines with railway power equipment,

– construction of a control room building at the Ełk station with new equipment,

– we will rebuild the sanitary infrastructure, rainwater drainage system and teletechnical networks.

In terms of engineering structures, the construction of:

• 4 Railway viaducts
• 1 Road Viaduct
• 1 Railway Bridge (
