Work on the largest investment of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A., worth over PLN 1.9 billion, carried out by Budimex, began in December 2020. The progress of works in Warszawa Zachodnia is approx. 60%. Work is currently underway on the construction of a roof over platforms 3, 4 and 5. – In the central part of the station, a roof of the station hall is being built, which is placed on barrettes. Foundation works have already been completed in this place, i.e. over 100 running meters of diaphragm walls, which reached up to 35 meters below ground level – says Patryk Jaworski, Construction Manager of the Warszawa Zachodnia station at Budimex SA.

The concreting of the first floor slab of the underground passage in the place of platforms 3, 4 and 5 has begun. Further work will include the scope under platforms 4 and 5 and the construction of new platforms. In addition, a station building is being built from the side of Wola. – We have already managed to implement approx. 70% steel structure. We made all the foundations and 60% of the walls. In the eastern part, a 280-metre-long retaining wall is under construction. It will serve as a resistance to the embankment, which will enable the connection of cross-city and long-distance tracks, and more specifically track 2 of 1 ŚR leading to Warszawa Centralna and further Warszawa Wschodnia – adds Patryk Jaworski.

From the side of the Warszawa Włochy station, work is underway on the continuation of the engineering structure, which is a two-level intersection of the track system. The foundation of the facility has already been completed. Under it, as well as under the track of the Radom line, 10 km of DSM columns were drilled.

The completion of works on platforms 3 and 4 is planned by September this year. In turn, from June this year, all four tracks of the cross-city line going from the station towards Central and Eastern Warsaw should be open.

Warszawa Zachodnia is a strategic station in Poland in terms of the number of trains running. On average, about 1000 agglomeration, regional, long-distance national and international trains pass through it daily. The construction works are carried out as part of the OPI&E 5.1-13 project entitled: “Works on the cross-city line in Warsaw on the section Warszawa Wschodnia – Warszawa Zachodnia”. The completion of the investment worth PLN 1.9 billion is planned for 2024.
