Budimex has completed the implementation of one of the key road investments in Pomerania – the Tri-City Metropolitan Bypass. As part of the contract, 16.3 km of a new S-class expressway was built, which will relieve traffic on the existing Tri-City Bypass and improve transit between the A1 motorway, the S7 expressway and the western part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The cost of the investment amounted to over PLN 668 million net.
The new route is a response to the long-standing needs of the residents of the Tri-City and the surrounding area, struggling with the overload of the current road network. However, its importance goes beyond the local dimension – OMT will become an important element of national and international transport.
“The construction of the Tri-City Metropolitan Bypass is one of the most demanding and at the same time the most important road projects that we have carried out in recent years. Today, we are commissioning a route that strengthens the transport potential of the region and increases its investment attractiveness on a national and international scale. – says Cezary Łysenko, Member of the Management Board of Budimex SA.
As part of the investment, implemented in the “Design and Build” formula, a dual carriageway expressway, “Chwaszczyno” and “Miszewo” road junctions, the Miszewo road circuit, as well as 28 engineering structures were built. The works also included 16.5 km of the main road, 15.5 km of access and service roads, over 3 million m³ of earthworks and 230 thousand m³ of land exchanges.
“The area is crossed by numerous local roads, two active railway lines and extensive underground infrastructure. Despite these challenges, thanks to the commitment of over 600 employees and good work organization, we managed to complete the construction before the summer holidays. We are handing over to the residents of Pomerania a route that will really relieve the existing Tri-City Bypass and improve the quality of travel in the entire region,” says Przemysław Czaja, Contract Director at Budimex SA.
During the construction, nearly 43 thousand m³ of concrete and over 280 thousand tons of bituminous mass were built. Drainage, installation of noise barriers and vertical and horizontal markings were also completed.
OMT is an important element of the new transport system of Pomerania – not only will it relieve congested routes, but will also allow for more effective distribution of traffic throughout the region. This is another large infrastructure investment in Budimex’s portfolio, after the m.in reconstruction of the S11 road completed in 2024 and the modernisation of the A18 motorway completed in 2024.
