BUDIMEX SA was awarded the first degree prize in the “Construction of the Year 2019” competition in as many as three categories. In the jubilee, thirtieth edition of the prestigious ranking, the Office Building was awarded. BIG in Krakow in the category “Office buildings”, the Marki Education and Recreation Center (“Cultural, scientific and educational facilities”) and the Arena Jaskółka Tarnów sports and entertainment hall in Tarnów (“Facilities assessed individually”).
The “Construction of the Year” competition evaluates investments in 9 different rankings – from residential buildings, through commercial buildings, to industrial ones. This year, recognition in the category of office projects was won by, m.in, a modern and ecological building. BIG, distinguished by energy efficiency, which was implemented for Ghelamco Poland. The facility has four above-ground floors and a two-level underground garage, equipped with, m.in others, a bicycle parking lot with sockets for charging electric two-wheelers. The office building was built in the BREEAM system, which means that both at the design and execution level, the investment has been subjected to a strict assessment in terms of its impact on the environment. The cubic capacity of the entire investment is over 73 thousand m3, and its usable area reaches 10 thousand m2.
– We are extremely proud that this year’s Budimex facilities have been selected in the competition. “Construction of the Year” is a unique distinction – the jury takes into account many criteria that we have been putting special emphasis on for years. Safety, good organization of work, ecological aspects and high quality are the assumptions that guide us in the implementation of all investments – says Artur Popko – Vice-President of Budimex SA.
The second awarded project is MCER – the most advanced public utility building in Poland. Thanks to the use of innovative technologies, the investment produces its own electricity, obtains water from rainwater and optimizes energy consumption in individual points of the facility on an ongoing basis. The resulting complex serves as an educational, sports, recreational and conference facility at the same time.
– This is the fourth industry award granted to this facility. Previously, MCER won the PLGBC Green Building Awards, the Green Laurel of the Polish Chamber of Commerce and the Sports Facility of the Year 2019 – says Artur Popko – Vice-President of Budimex SA.
Among the awarded investments completed in 2019 was also Arena Jaskółka Tarnów. It is the second largest sports and entertainment hall in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The three-storey facility has 4317 seats in the auditorium. The distinguishing feature of the project is the hybrid structure of the roof, on which 422 photovoltaic panels with a total capacity of 120 kWp were installed.
The “Construction of the Year” competition is organized every year by the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians in cooperation with the Ministry of Construction and the General Office of Building Supervision. Its aim is to select projects that stand out for their modern technological solutions, quality of work and safe working environment.
Last year, Budimex SA won the “Construction of the Year 2018” award in the “industrial and production facilities” category for the construction of the multifunctional Nuctech factory in Kobyłka.
