Tram to Wilanów – new traffic organization from 11 February

Share article

The construction of the tram to Wilanów is entering the next stage. From 11 February, the construction site begins to extend – the works will cover the entire section from ul. Puławska Street in Mokotów through Sobieskiego Street and Aleja Rzeczpospolitej to ul. Branickiego in Wilanów. The investment will be completed in accordance with the contractual deadline in the first quarter of 2024.

The construction site is being extended by about 5 km. On Saturday, February 11, one roadway of ul.Sobieskiego Street and Rzeczypospolitej Avenue. Traffic marking out on one roadway will end on February 19. For most of the construction works, the main intersections will be unobstructed and passable. However, during the works, smaller road connections will be temporarily closed – this will be the intersection with van Beethoven Street and Sejmu Four-Year Street, and access to Truskawiecka Street will be partially difficult.

The difficulties result from the need to rebuild many underground installations, such as heat supply, water supply, sewage and electrical installations. These installations should be rebuilt comprehensively, which is why the works must be carried out along the entire length of Sobieskiego Street. During the reconstruction, m.in works related to the demolition of bituminous surfaces, humus removal of the separation strip, milling will be carried out, and heavy equipment will be introduced to take care of the demolition of paving elements. Then the construction of tracks, power supply, new roadways and tram stops will take place.

After the completion of the construction, the tram ride from the Wilanów district to the Centrum metro station will take only 25 minutes. On average, 230 employees and 60 equipment units work on the construction site every day. The general contractor assures that it is doing everything to complete this investment as soon as possible and put the roads into use by the residents.

For the passenger

Bus lane on ul. Sobieskiego Street is extended from 18 February to Al. Wilanowska Street. From 13 February, a new connection from Wilanów to the M1 metro line is provided by buses of line 217 on an extended route. From the bus stop at Al. Rzeczypospolitej and ul. Branickiego will be available to the Imielin station by buses of three lines – 217, 263 and 319. In the morning rush hour, buses towards the Imielin metro station will depart approx. every hour. 4-5 minutes. During the winter holidays, more frequent courses of line 522 and the operation of line E-2 will be maintained. The final section of line 172 will change. The buses will reach the Stegny terminus, not the Sadyba terminus.

For drivers

Traffic on ul. Sobieskiego and Al. Rzeczpospolita will take place on one roadway. Drivers will have one lane in each direction at their disposal. In the first days, you should be especially careful and remember that navigation systems such as Google Maps “learn” new driver behaviors.

For pedestrians and cyclists

You can move freely along the construction site on foot. Passage from one side of the street to the other is possible thanks to special communication points. In addition, the footbridges running over the construction site are maintained. For safety reasons, bicycle traffic should take place on the west side, right next to road traffic. However, it is worth remembering that the entire five-kilometre section – on both sides of the street – is a construction site, so you should be particularly careful when moving along the investment site.

Maps and descriptions showing the details of the new, temporary traffic organization can be found on the infoulice.um.warszawa.pl website. ‎
