We change the world and we change ourselves. Budimex announces ESG Strategy until 2026
Budimex is intensifying its activities for sustainable development. The production and use of electricity from renewable sources, the assessment of the impact of business activities on water stress or the equalization of remuneration regardless of gender are some of the ambitious goals that the company wants to achieve in the next 3 years.
The sustainable development goals presented by Budimex are a continuation of the activities initiated by the company in 2021 as part of the CSR Strategy. The company has translated the knowledge and experience gained in the field of social and environmental activities into specific commitments to support the process of greening and responsible development of the entire construction industry in Poland.
The focus of Budimex is invariably on people. It is through the prism of the needs and expectations of employees, beneficiaries of implemented projects, customers and partners of the company that the main assumptions have been developed ESG Strategy – “We are changing the world for you! And we change ourselves.”
– For several decades, we have been developing infrastructure, building private and public facilities that improve the quality of life on a daily basis. We are aware that our industry is one of the most carbon-intensive industries, so by changing ourselves we can do a lot of good for future generations. It is a matter of responsibility, but also a well-thought-out business decision. Ambitious development of the company in isolation from respect for the natural environment, respect for people or honesty in management is impossible – says Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA. ” This document is our very specific idea of how we want to change ourselves and the world around us ,” adds the President of Budimex SA.
Budimex’s ESG strategy for 2023-2026 is based on three areas: the natural environment, social responsibility and corporate governance. Each of them has been carefully analyzed and translated into specific actions m.in. based on the Sustainable Development Goals set out in
in the UN 2030 Agenda.
– Bearing in mind the challenges that business has to face in terms of environmental protection, resources or social impact, we know that facing them requires a large-scale commitment. Our Strategy is based on a holistic approach, combining green transformation on our construction sites with strengthening dialogue with stakeholders and acting in accordance with Budimex’s values – explains Ewelina Karp-Kręglicka, Director of the Procurement, Quality and Environmental Protection Office at Budimex SA.
By 2050, Budimex wants to achieve climate neutrality. On the way to zero-emission, it plans further investments in the development of renewable energy, reduction of CO2 emissions and gradual implementation of the principles of circular economy throughout the construction process.
In 2026, 100 per cent. of electricity from RES produced in the Group is to be used for Budimex’s current operational needs. From 2024, the company will recycle approx. 70 per cent. soil and non-hazardous waste. It will also be one of the first companies in Poland to measure its water footprint.
– Our ambition is to become an industry leader in the area of environmental protection. Recovery of building materials, offering sustainable solutions to investors, our own production of energy from renewable energy sources or protection of biodiversity are not new activities for us – we have been doing it for a long time. However, we are accelerating them to mobilize our industry to be more active and share good practices with it – Says Wioletta Roguska, Head of Affairs ESG, Purchasing, Quality and Environmental Protection Office at Budimex SA.
In the social area, Budimex is committed to strengthening diversity and equality in the workplace and to further promoting safety rules – both among employees, subcontractors and business partners. Budimex will also invest in industry education and take care of the quality of life of local communities.
– Budimex is first and foremost people. We build with the needs of the beneficiaries of our investments in mind. We create stable and comfortable working conditions for our employees. We value the role of women in the construction industry, we want to level the playing field and create new opportunities for their development. We also understand that it is our commitment that will determine how many young people will decide to pursue their careers in construction in the future – emphasizes Anna Karyś-Sosińska, Member of the Management Board, Director of the Human Resources Management Division at Budimex SA.
In the area of corporate governance, in order to be able to effectively and professionally implement the assumptions of the Strategy, the company will strengthen its ethical culture and will integrate ESG risks into the risk management system throughout the organization later this year.
– The reputation and reliability associated with Budimex are due to our competences, but also to ethical standards in our daily work. What characterizes us is a long-term view of the market and our environment – hence a number of activities specified in the Strategy, aimed at minimizing risk throughout the value chain, including strengthening awareness of counteracting conflicts of interest, developing a Code of Conduct for Business Partners or improving defense mechanisms against cyber threats – emphasizes Bogna Kuczyńska-Piech, Director of Internal Affairs legal areas of corporate law, attorney-at-law at Budimex SA.
