In order to implement the planned energy and transmission investments in the field of energy, gas and oil pipelines, we should simplify the procedures for energy investments,” said Artur Popko, President of Budimex SA, during the European Economic Forum in Katowice.

The President of Budimex took part in a discussion panel on Europe’s energy security.  The discussion was also attended by: Tomasz Heryszek, President of the Management Board, Węglokoks SA, Dorota Jeziorowska, Director, Polish Association of Professional Heat and Power Plants, Grzegorz Należyty, President of the Management Board, Siemens Energy in Poland Piotr Sabat, Member of the Management Board for Internal Affairs. PKN ORLEN SA and Paweł Stańczyk, President of the Management Board, PERN S.A.

We have caught up with Europe in terms of road construction. Our road network looks completely different and we have achieved a really great success. If we compare it, we will look at other countries from Eastern Europe, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania. We carried out special acts that allowed for quick construction. We have simplified the procedures. We build several hundred kilometers of new expressways per year. Today, this is the result of simplifying the regulations – argued Artur Popko. We should do the same in the transmission energy sector when it comes to networks, but also renewable energy sources ,” he adds.

The President of Budimex pointed out that milestone investments in the energy sector can give  us the necessary know-how for Polish construction companies, but on the condition that we make proper use of technology transfer.

I encourage both investors and the industry to introduce the so-called “Brexit” requirements for foreign investors in the energy sector. Offsets. (analogous expenditures to investing in production capacity and cooperation with Polish companies – ed.)

It will impose the need to leave this technology knowledge here in the country, so that we can continue to develop as Poland on neighbouring markets, so that the funds for the development of the energy sector in Poland are well used,” said the President of Budimex during the discussion.

Artur Popko also pointed out that there are only 17 years left until 2040, when the planned investments in RES and new transmission networks are to achieve the goal of reducing emission energy generation sources to 25%.

It seems to us that 17 years is a long time. The simplest investment from the moment of starting the plan on paper to be made is 4 years. When we look at the construction of complex energy investments, after obtaining a building permit, for example, the construction of a power unit, such as the one in Turów implemented by our company, took 8 years at a fast pace – said Artur Popko.

Budimex is one of the main sponsors of this year’s European Economic Congress in Katowice. One of the largest economic events in Poland is attended by over 8 thousand entrepreneurs, politicians and journalists from Poland and Europe.
