A consortium of Mitsubishi Power Europe, Tecnicas Reunidas and Budimex SA has built a new 496 MW power unit at the Turów Power Plant, for the operator PGE Górnictwo i Energetyka Konwencjonalna. It works on supercritical steam parameters. The generating unit in the unit is a single-pass, tower flow boiler with a pulverized furnace and a low-emission combustion chamber. The investment is to cover the energy demand of about 1 million households. The new unit meets strict environmental standards. Sulphur dioxide emissions, compared to the previously shut down units No. 8, 9 and 10, are almost 20 times lower, and dust emissions about 10 times lower. In addition, the unit is characterized by CO2 emissions of approx. 15 per cent lower than the currently operating power units at the Turów Power Plant.

The Turów complex is an important element of the Polish power system, contributing to ensuring Polish’s energy security and stable electricity supply. It is responsible for approx. 5 per cent of domestic energy production. The mine and power plant are also one of the most important and largest industrial plants in this part of Lower Silesia and the largest employer in the region. The employment directly in the Mine and Power Plant, in subsidiaries and cooperating entities provides a stable existence for about 60-80 thousand people, including the families of employees.
