June 10, 2024 in the construction of the Berdychów bridges, a time capsule with the foundation act was placed. Both structures will connect Poznań’s Chwaliszewo, Ostrów Tumski and Berdychowo. The general contractor of the facilities is Budimex S.A.

The foundation act, signed by the Deputy Mayor of Poznań, the President of Poznańskie Inwestycje Miejskie and a representative of Budimex, was ceremoniously placed in the element of the steel structure connecting the arch of the bridge. This is the last part of the crossing base, mounted above the Warta River mirror, directly above the shipping route. The new crossing over the Warta River consists of two bridges. The length of the first of them – on the Warta River – will be 165 m, and the width in the middle of the span will be 12 m. The length of the second bridge – over Cybina – will be 117 m.

The Berdychów Bridges will complement the existing infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. This is an investment that will facilitate communication of the vicinity of the campus of the Poznań University of Technology with the southern region of Ostrów Tumski and the left-bank part of the city, including the Old Market Square. The task facing the general contractor of the project, Budimex, includes not only the construction of the crossing, but also pavements, ramps and stairs. There are also plans to rebuild the intersection of Berdychowo and Prof. Jacek Rychlewski, which are located at the Poznań University of Technology. An additional assumed effect of the investment is the activation of the southern tip of Ostrów Tumski. It will be developed with greenery and small architecture, such as benches.

“The construction is progressing according to plan and has already entered the final stage of implementation. The Berdychów Bridges will not only complement the existing infrastructure of Poznań for pedestrians and cyclists, but will also facilitate communication between the vicinity of the Poznań University of Technology campus and the southern region of Ostrów Tumski and the left-bank part of the city, including the Old Market Square. We have installed the last element of the steel structure of the arch of the bridge over the Warta River, which means that we have reached a key milestone for us. Now we are starting to assemble the upper elements of the steel structure, which are the platform for the facility. Thanks to the use of m.in. of the world’s largest mobile crane, we can safely and quickly install the elements, while minimizing the nuisance for the residents of Poznań and the surrounding areas” – says Marcin Zaorski, Contract Director at Budimex SA.

In the works on the crossings over the Warta and Cybina rivers, a mobile crane with a lifting capacity of 1200 tons is used – the largest in the world in this category. The model was produced on special order, and there are only a few similar machines in the world. After merging all elements of the arch over the Warta River, the assembly of the upper elements of the steel structure, constituting a platform for the structure, will begin.

Ultimately, both bridges will rest only on the abutments, which will give the entire structure lightness and a unique look. They were planned as analogous in terms of architecture and construction, creating a uniform whole.
